The team at the Visual Capitalists have demonstrated the key roles copper and cobalt will play in the electric transportation revolution, and this week they have stepped up with another compelling presentation. The present and future importance of nickel is assured.

In “Nickel: The Secret Driver of the Battery Revolution” we learn that nickel, more than lithium and cobalt, is vital to lithium ion batteries. States Elon Musk “Our cells should be called Nickel-Graphite, because primarily the cathode is nickel and the anode side is graphite with silicon oxide.” Going forward, nickel demand is expected to eclipse both cobalt and manganese, two of the hottest exploration stories going.

Nickel is already an important mining money maker, currently supporting a $20 billion industry, so we’ve been looking for it at Hay Mountain. This summer during our ongoing x-ray florescence survey program  we noted some healthy readings within the molybdenum geochem anomaly mapped in 2011. We will need to do more work to see if it is commercially relevant, but it is good to know that there is a presence over large areas.

This summer we scanned for numerous elements and had positive results for silver, gold, cobalt, copper, molybdenum iron, nickel, lead, uranium, and zinc. The results are confidential but will be published after physical completion, contouring by computer and interpretation, but we will share progress  information with parties operating under confidentiality agreements. We see these findings as another strong selling point to bring us the funding we need to begin exploratory drilling at Hay Mountain Target 1.
